Desert Blister Beetles (Lytta magister), Anza Borrego State Park, California. These beetles secrete an organic chemical called cantharidin when disturbed. This substance causes blisters and was used in over-the-counter wart remedies. They are found in the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts in California and elsewhere.
