Mikhail Fyodorovich Shostakovsky (1905-1983), Soviet organic chemist. Shostakovsky studied at Irkutsk State University. He worked at the Institute of Organic Chemistry from 1932, where he prepared 'Shostakovsky Balsam', a thick viscous polymer used from 1944 to treat wounds, burns and ulcers. He received the USSR State Prize in 1949. From 1957 to 1970, he was Director of the Irkutsk Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. He was elected a Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1960. Photographed in Russia in 1962.
