Caption

Soviet plant scientists in a wheat field on a state farm in Russia. From left to right, they are: Pavel Panteleimonovich Lukyanenko (1901-1973); Fedor Grigorevich Kirichenko (1904-1988); Vasily Nikolayevich Remeslo (1907-1983). All three worked on breeding new hybrid forms of wheat. They were members of the Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VASKhNIL). All three were awarded Hero of Socialist Labour (seen on Remeslo's lapel). Kirichenko and Remeslo were from the Ukraine (the major source of Soviet wheat), while Lukyanenko was from Krasnodar Krai in Russia, bordering the Ukraine. Photographed in July 1973.
