Caption

Small particles (~4 mm in diameter) were removed from the interior of dog feces, fixed, dehydrated and examined by SEM. The density of the bacteria varied. This image shows their intermediate density. Even if most of the dog feces is removed by the dogs owners from city lawns, the remaining bacteria get into rain water and when dried they may get airborne and pose a health hazard. Enhanced SEM. Image width: 19.7 micrometers. Magnification: 5,075x if the image is printed 10 cm wide.
