It is 16 x 3 arc minutes in apparent size and 9.6 magnitude in apparent brightness. It is located in the constellation of Coma Berenices at a distance of about 31 million light years. NGC 4565 was discovered by William Herschel in 1785. NGC 4562, a 13.5 magnitude galaxy, is at lower right in the frame.
