Fossilised prehistoric aquatic organism. Fossilised remains (circles) of Cyclomedusa radiata from the Proterozoic era, around 2500-542 million years ago. The Proterozoic era is a period before the first abundant complex life appeared on Earth. Cyclomedusa were was originally thought to resemble jellyfish, but it is now suggested that they were a microbial colony.
