NMR spectrometer analysis. Two-dimensional screen display of the structure of a potential antibiotic drug, analyzed by a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometer. The mixture of chemicals in a synthetically produced drug is seen here. Each peak on the plot corresponds to a component of the mixture, and its concentration. NMR spectroscopy uses a magnetic field to analyze the atoms within each chemical component. Each component may then be selected and tested for its antibacterial activity.
