This sea turtle is suffering from fibropapillomatosis, a viral disease causing extensive benign tumor growth in both hard and soft tissue. The disease can result in floatation problems, renal failure, and pressure necrosis. Surgical treatment is possible but impractical. The turtle in the photo is being treated at the Turtle Hospital in the Florida Keys community of Marathon.
