Positive airway pressure therapy is the most effective non-invasive treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). A common therapy device called a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine is prescribed for moderate cases. A CPAP machine delivers just enough air pressure to keep the upper airway passages open during the sleep, preventing apnea and snoring. A CPAP machine increases air pressure in the throat so the airway does not collapse when the patient breathes in. CPAP is used at home every night during sleep. A failure to use it increases the risk of hypertension, stroke, anbd congestive feart failure.
