Transit instrument. This astronomical device was made by the British instrument maker Edward Troughton (1753-1835) for the Royal Greenwich Observatory, London, England. This diagram is from 'An Introduction to Practical Astronomy', published by William Pearson in several volumes between 1824 and 1829.
