Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan in axial section of the brain of a 42 year old patient in a coma (with unresponsive pupil dilation). The brain shows loss of differentiation between grey and white matter with diffuse hypoxic encephalopathy (brain damage due to lack of oxygen). There are ischaemic lesions of the basal ganglia and mesencephalic nuclei (white dots).
