Anemometer. This device is used to measure wind direction and speed. This model (Mark 4a) uses cups to catch the wind for the speed measurement, and a vane (left) to indicate wind direction. The cable (lower right) allows the data to be transmitted to where it is needed. The data gathered is used by the Met Office, the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service.
