Whole Earth. False-colour view of the whole Earth, made by a Meteosat weather satellite. The day/night terminator runs roughly diagonally across the disc, with night to the right (blue tones). The Sahara Desert in Africa is seen as a large brown area just above centre. Parts of the coast of Europe may be seen between the clouds above Africa. The north-eastern tip of South America is seen just below centre left. This image was gathered by the Meteosat 3 satellite from a geostationary orbit 35,790 km above the equator.
