Cloud banks seen from space. Extensive banks of cloud are seen in this Space Shuttle photograph. Included here are deep cumulus clouds at bottom left, low-level stratus clouds right of centre and very white high-level cirrostratus clouds at far right. The dark area just below the Earth's limb is part of the west coast of South America, with a bright patch of sunlight glinting off the Pacific Ocean. This photograph was taken by the crew of Shuttle Discovery during Mission STS-31 of 24-29 April 1990.
