Arabian Peninsula (right) and the Red Sea (left) from space. At centre left, between two fingers of the Red Sea, is the Sinai Peninsula, part of Egypt. The majority of the Arabian Peninsula is taken up by Saudi Arabia. This area is largely covered in desert (orange) and mountains (brown). Above the Sinai Peninsula is the Mediterranean Sea. Photographed from the Space Shuttle Columbia during mission STS-40 in June 1991.
