At centre is the Red Sea, to the right of which is the Arabian Peninsula, mainly comprising Saudi Arabia. The Arabian Sea is at bottom right. Iraq is above Saudi Arabia, and Iran lies between the Caspian Sea (top right) and the Persian Gulf (centre right). Afghanistan and Pakistan are at upper right. To the left of the Red Sea, and below the Mediterranean Sea (upper left), are Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Chad and Niger in north-east Africa. This image is compiled from data obtained by MODIS on the TERRA satellite from June-September 2001.
