Turkey, satellite image. North is at top. Water is blue, vegetation is green, barren land is brown, and clouds are white. Turkey is a mountainous and rugged country. The Black Sea is to the north. The Mediterranean Sea, and the island of Cyprus, are to the south. The Dodecanese islands of Greece are off Turkey's western coast (left). South-eastern Europe is across the Sea of Marmara (upper left) that separates the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. Syria and Lebanon are at lower right. Blooms of phytoplankton (green) are in the Black Sea. The large Tuz Golu salt basin (white) is at centre. Image acquired on 21 September 2002 by the MODIS sensor on board NASA's Terra satellite.
