Global warming. Artwork of a dry river bed caused by global warming. This is the gradual rise in temperatures across the Earth due to the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is caused by pollutants in the atmosphere which decrease the amount of heat lost by the Earth into space. Global warming could melt the ice caps, causing widespread flooding due to rising as sea levels, and lush countryside could become parched desert.
