Thunderstorm seen from space. View of a large cumulonimbus cloud cell seen from an orbiting Space Shuttle. The cell has two major updrafts, the cloud is estimated to be about 50 kilometres across and about 13 kilometres high. This type and size of cloud is associated with very severe thunderstorms. This photograph was taken by the crew of Shuttle Mission STS-55 of 26 April to 6 May 1993 whilst over the coast of Nigeria.
