Rothera Research Station, aerial view, on Adelaide Island, off the Antarctic Peninsula. The runway allows access by air, and a wharf allows access by sea. The station is run and manned by the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) and is involved in research in biology, geoscience, glaciology and atmospheric sciences. It was established in 1975 and is manned throughout the year by 22-130 people.
