Antarctic supply helicopter. This helicopter is moving supplies between the Dumont d'Urville and Cape Prud'hommme bases in Antarctica. As well as providing supplies for these coastal bases, this route is used to supply the Concordia base some 1000 kilometres further inland. The remoteness of Antarctic bases requires extensive planning and movement of several tons of food and other supplies to support the base personnel through a research season. Dumont d'Urville and Cape Prud'homme are French bases, while Concordia is operated jointly by Italy and France. The Dumont d'Urville base was founded in 1956, while Concordia opened in 2005.
