Antarctica 20,000 years ago, computer model. Image 1 of 2. This image shows Antarctica as it was during the peak of the last major glaciation (ice age). More ice covered Antarctica and the sea around it during this period than during the modern era (see image E215/509). Examples of this increased ice cover include the larger area of the Ross Ice Shelf (lower left) and the ice covering the mountains of the Antarctic Peninsula (far left). The seasonal sea ice (much thinner than the massive ice shelves) is not shown here.
