Glaciological research. Scientists in Antarctica being hoisted from Royal Research Ship James Clark Ross onto sea ice to conduct glaciological research. Glaciology is the study of ice and all natural phenomena where ice is involved. Sea ice is formed by the freezing of sea water. RRS James Clark Ross is an ice-strengthened polar research vessel used by the British Antarctic Survey (BAS).
