Icebergs in Biscoe Islands, Antarctic Peninsula. Icebergs aground in the Biscoe Islands tower impressively behind a few chinstrap penguins. Bergs of this size have a huge mass of ice beneath the surface of the sea, 80 to 90% of their total mass. Bergs often run aground in shallow coastal waters and may remain in position for weeks or months.
