Valley glacier. This type of glacier is a stream of flowing ice within a valley. A glacier occurs when more snow falls than melts. Over time, layers of fallen snow become compacted, forming ice. The mass of the ice in a glacier flows under the pull of gravity. As a glacier moves, it removes material from one location (erosion) and carries it to another (deposition).
