Ice on mountain signpost. The ice formed during the night. It was photographed on a morning ascent of Mount Washington, New Hampshire, USA. This peak has an elevation of 1916 metres, and is one of the highest points in the USA east of the Rockies. It is famous for having some of the worst weather in the world. Some of the strongest-ever winds, along with temperatures as low as -44 degrees Celsius, and heavy snowfalls, cause extreme conditions. These ice crystals have formed in the direction of the prevailing wind.
