Rocky coastline. Lichen-covered rocks on the seashore. Lichens, such as Ochrolechia parella (grey) and Caloplaca verruculifera (orange) are found on rocks above the high tide mark. They may occasionally be reached by seawater spray but are never immersed. Lichens are mutualistic associations between fungi and algae. Photographed at Cwm Tydu, Cardigan Bay, Wales.
