Engineer testing a seismometer for faults. The seismometer (not seen) is buried in a hole in the ground (lower left). The engineer is working with the radio transmitter (white) that transmits the data to a nearby radio mast. This radio mast (not seen) then relays the data onwards to an analysis centre. Seismometers are vibration- sensitive machines used to record ground movements and study earthquakes.
