Image of Mt Etna volcano (3323m) in Sicily, Italy, covered by snow. It is the highest volcano in Europe. It has erupted more than 150 times since activity was first recorded in 1500 B.C. Nowadays, small to moderate explosive eruptions occur at the summit. The most dangerous eruptions to human activities occur from subsidiary craters well below the summit of the volcano. Mt Etna is situated on the collision zone between the African and the Eurasian plate.
