Mount Etna erupting. Glowing lava (molten rock) and clouds of ash (rock fragments) and vapours rising into the air during an eruption of Mount Etna, a volcano on the Italian island of Sicily. This is an eruption from a vent in the Bocca Nuova crater. Etna stands 3323 metres tall and is the largest active volcano in Europe. Photographed in November 1999.
