Pacaya volcano erupting at night. This time- exposure image also shows star trails in the night sky. Pacaya is located at an altitude of over 2500 metres in the Central American country of Guatemala. The volcano has been continually active since 1965. Its eruptions are a combination of Strombolian (regular, but non-violent) and Plinian (violent explosions) types. Photographed on 2 June 1994.
