Mount Etna. Satellite image of plumes of smoke rising from the volcano Mount Etna. Mount Etna occupies the eastern part of the Italian island of Sicily. It is the largest and most active volcano in Europe, and stands 3323 metres above sea level. It is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and continuously experiences minor eruptions. The top of the mountain is covered with snow. Taken by the Ikonos satellite on 16 October 2000.
