Red Crater volcanic vent, New Zealand. View from Mount Tongariro's Red Crater volcanic vent (lower left, 1900 metres) of the active volcano Mount Ngauruhoe (upper right, 2291 metres). Red Crater last erupted in 1926. Nguarohoe erupted 45 times in the 20th century. Nguaruhoe is the youngest of the vents in the Tongariro volcanic complex on New Zealand's North Island. It first erupted some 2500 years ago.
