Pahoehoe lava folds. Folded surface of a solidi- fied flow of volcanic lava. Pahoehoe, or 'ropey', lava is an alkaline basaltic lava which is very fluid when it emerges from the volcano. It is typical of intraplate volcanoes. Lava is molten rock from within the Earth that reaches the surface by being forced through faults in the planet's crust. Photographed in Hawaii, USA.
