Lava flow from Kilauea volcano on the island of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean. Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes on Earth. This is aa lava, which is characterized by jagged, angular blocks. Bursts of gas escaping as the lava cools cause it to break into irregular shapes. Hawaiian word. Photographed on 23 October 1999.
