Plants recolonising a lava flow after it has cooled and solidified. Lava is a rich and nutritious medium for plant growth, and flows are rapidly recolonised by plants. This flow is at the Kilauea Caldera, in Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii, USA. The entire Hawaiian archipelago is made up of solidified volcanic rock.
