Caption

The crystalised grains in active Pahoehoe lava can cause it to have a shiny silver skin when seen under a high and bright Sun. The skin is a near-perfect insulator, keeping the molten interior hot and fluid. If pressure from the molten interior becomes to great, the molten rock can can break from the silvery skin and continue to flow.
