Vulcanologist studying an eruption of Mount Etna at night. Glowing lava (molten rock) is being thrown into the air by the eruption. Etna is on the Italian island of Sicily and stands 3323 metres tall, making it the largest active volcano in Europe. This image was taken in Summer 2001, during one of Etna's active periods.
