Ferdinandea volcano research. Diver recording surface temperatures at the crater of the submerged volcano seamount Ferdinandea. Ferdinandea is located around 30 kilometres south of Sicily. This region is one of the most volcanically active in Europe because of its proximity to the border between the Eurasian and African plates. Research has suggested that the volcano may erupt again soon, which would cause it to emerge above sea level.
