Faulted rock strata. Folded rock strata with a crack (fault) running from top right to bottom centre. These strata were originally horizontal layers of sediment which became compressed into rock whilst deep underground. The rock became folded and cracked in this way because of the huge forces generated when the plates in the Earth's crust move against each other. Photograph taken at Saundersfoot, Great Britain.
