Folded rock strata. Aerial photograph of folded rock strata. Tectonic forces have crumpled the rock upwards to form mountains. Subsequent erosion has exposed the layered nature of the rock. The layers are seen as ridges running along the contours of an eroded mountain. The inner core of one of the folds of rock is seen as a remnant mountain ridge at top left. Photographed in Wyoming, USA.
