Sedimentary rock. Bands of stones and fine sediment forming sedimentary rock. The bands, which have been exposed by erosion, are caused by flash flooding. Initially the force of the water flow can pick up large rocks and deposit them some distance from their origin. As the flow subsides, only smaller particles are carried, and the large rocks are covered in a finer silt. This happens periodically, the rock is built up in layers.
