Sedimentary rock. Sandstone rock face showing cross-bedding. This sedimentary rock was formed approximately 200 million years ago, by the deposition of successive layers of particles carried by the wind, which later compressed into rock. The cross-bedding (narrow lines) was produced by changes in the direction of the air currents over time. Photographed in the Zion National Park, Utah, USA.
