Eroded limestone rock. The limestone rock has been shaped by natural chemical erosion. Carbon dioxide in the air dissolves in rainwater to form carbonic acid. This acid erodes the limestone rock as the water flows over it. Landscapes formed by this type of erosion are referred to as karst landscapes. Surface features like this are called karren. This area is near Pragel Pass, Schwyz Canton, Switzerland.
