Coloured Sands formation, formed from sedimentary sand layers. This formation is found on Fraser Island, Australia, the largest sand island in the world. The Coloured Sands formation is also called Teewah Coloured Sands, and is sacred to the local Aborigine population. The different colours form from a combination of different minerals and the decay of organic matter. The layers in the rock show an uninterrupted sequence of climatic and sea level changes over the last 70,000 years.
