False colour scanning electron micrograph of sand particles from an unidentified source. Sand is formed from arenaceous rock, a type of detrital sedimentary rock, usually sandstone. Particle size ranges from 1/16mm to 2mm. Sand may be accumulated by wind action or deposited by water action in marine, brackish or freshwater environments. Magnification: x12 at 35mm size.
