Plane polarised light micrograph of a thin section of glauconite sand grains from the continental shelf off California. Glauconite is a mineral of marine orgin found in sedimentary deposits of various kinds (sands, as here, sandstones, silts, & impure limestones). It is a thin crytal, characteristically bright green in colour. Mag: X100 (at 35mm size).
