Polarised light micrograph of a thin section of the mineral "olivine" occurring in gabbro rock. The term olivine refers to forsterite (Iron II silicate) & fayalite (magnesium silicate), which form a continuous series. Almost all olivine commonly found is forsterite (including gem- variety peridot). Magnification: X 6.3 at 35mm size.
