Polarised light micrograph of a thin section of Hornblende, a silicate mineral. Hornblende is an important constituent of metamorphic rocks, especially amphibolites. The mineral forms prismatic, stubby crystals, often as fibrous, sheaf-like aggregates, dark green or black in colour. Magnification: x7 at 6x6cm size.
