Gabbro. Polarised light micrograph of a section of gabbro, an igneous rock mainly composed of plagioclase feldspar and olivine. It forms deep below the surface from the crystallisation of magma (molten rock). It is typically found in igneous intrusions into other rocks. Magnification: x21 at 4x5 inch size.
